Radio one lesson 7
How has radio one evolved?
Presenters
Since its creation in1967, a staple and reflection of radio ones broadcasting has been represented through its choice of presenter. Over this 54 year period their has been a total of 15 official breakfast presenter starting with Tony Blackburn, who served for 6 years, all the way to Greg James who is presenting his third year at the moment. Overall the presenters growth and change in personality types seem to show that Radio one was able to adapt to current trends, with host like Zoe Ball being a clear answer to the growing rave scene in the 90's. Or Moyle's crass and deliberately edgy humour appealing to the more rebellious teenage audience, all presenter's brought something unique to their broadcast in order to attract listener, seen most recently with Greg James's use of social media for fan interactions.
what is unique about radio one's evolution?
one of the most unique things about radio one as a broadcaster is its implementation of modern technology into its daily shows. This is most prevalent in modern broadcasts as Greg James as he made it apparent in his first show how much he wants to use social media to interact with audience members. Furthermore, due to the decline in radio listeners in the past few decades, radio one has began integrating more modern means of distribution through the likes of social media, YouTube and streaming services such as the Iplayer. Using these methods they have been able to reach their target audiences of 15-29 year olds as these ages are much less likely to use.
