The Big Issue use it to appeal to there sophisticated ABC1 audiences who will understand the reference, and the reference make will often corollate with the story on the front cover and help explain a story to the reader

  • Summaries the key word in the question- show that you understand
  • Summaries the 'why' they do this
  • Analyzed the meaning of the reference, then talked about audiences
  • media language analysis, showing the big issues POV on there political opinions
  • Conclusion- overall why have they done this and what affect does this create

  • The reference to the sex pistols links to rebellion and conformity  

  • The colors as well as the use lettering and safety pin are clear references to punk and sex pistols 

  • Safety pin links to the punk area but also as a representation of the country being as safe as possible

  • Most of the audience will understand the references 

  • Many members of the audience will remember what the punk era was like comparing it too now 

The Big Issue will often make intertextual references that its niche audience will understand, as this the case with a cover referencing 1970s punk band the Sex pistols. The cover reads, National identify in the style of the sex pistols with its color scheme, this will be a
